Grade Level: Grade 8
Duration: 5 Weeks
Focus: Understanding and applying the real number system
Module 1: Real Numbers & Numerical Relationships introduces students to the complete real number system while strengthening their understanding of numerical relationships and advanced number concepts. Students explore the differences between rational and irrational numbers, investigate square roots and cube roots, apply the laws of exponents, and use scientific notation to represent very large and very small quantities.
Throughout the module, students develop computational fluency and mathematical reasoning by comparing and classifying real numbers, estimating non-perfect square and cube roots, performing operations with scientific notation, and solving real-world problems involving numerical relationships. These concepts form an essential foundation for algebra, geometry, science, and future mathematics courses.
By the end of this module, students will confidently classify and operate within the real number system while applying advanced numerical concepts to authentic mathematical situations.
