Grade Level: Grade 9
Duration: 7 Weeks
Focus: Introduction to nonlinear relationships
Module 5: Quadratic Relationships & Data Analysis introduces students to nonlinear relationships and expands their understanding of mathematical patterns beyond linear models. Students explore quadratic functions, their graphs, and how they can be used to represent situations involving changing rates.
Throughout the module, students analyze parabolas, identify key features of quadratic functions, solve basic quadratic equations, and explore factoring as a strategy for finding solutions. Students also strengthen data analysis skills by interpreting data displays, examining scatter plots, identifying trends, and using mathematical models to describe relationships.
By the end of this module, students will be able to recognize quadratic patterns, analyze nonlinear graphs, solve introductory quadratic equations, and use data relationships to make predictions and draw conclusions.
