Grade Level: Grade 6
Duration: 5 Weeks
Focus: Working with positive and negative numbers
Module 2: Rational Numbers & Operations develops students’ understanding of numbers beyond positive whole numbers by introducing positive and negative values and their applications in mathematics and everyday life. Students explore how rational numbers can represent situations involving increases, decreases, distance from zero, and changes in quantity.
Throughout the module, students learn to represent rational numbers on number lines and coordinate models, compare values using mathematical reasoning, understand absolute value, and perform operations with integers and other rational numbers. Students apply addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division strategies to solve real-world problems involving temperature, money, elevation, and measurement.
By the end of this module, students will be able to confidently work with rational numbers, explain mathematical relationships, and apply operations to solve meaningful problems.
