Grade Level: Grade 5
Duration: 7 Weeks
Focus: Applying mathematical thinking
Module 5: Data Analysis, Expressions & Financial Literacy develops students’ ability to apply mathematical thinking to analyze information, represent relationships, and make informed decisions. Students explore how data can be organized, interpreted, and used to answer questions in meaningful ways.
Throughout the module, students learn to read and create data displays, analyze line plots, identify patterns and relationships, and represent mathematical situations using numerical expressions. Students develop an understanding of the order of operations and learn how to evaluate expressions accurately.
The module also introduces financial literacy concepts by connecting mathematics to budgeting, spending decisions, saving, and real-world problem solving. Students practice using mathematical reasoning to make decisions and explain their thinking.
By the end of this module, students will be able to analyze data, evaluate expressions, apply operation rules, and use mathematics to solve everyday problems.
